We had a lovely launch last Wednesday 21 August 2019 of the current issue of Plumwood Mountain journal, ‘Intersecting Energies: Location, Gender, Climate‘, with beautiful readings from contributors. In particular it was great to hear commissioned poets Emily Munro Harrison asking ‘what kind of future are we making?’, Ryan Prehn exploring problematic masculinities in relation to climate inaction, Magan Magan’s shifting Earth voice/s and Lian Low’s evocation of the intersections of the domestic and the personal political, with Australian impacts in the region as we send our recycling elsewhere. There were 10 poets in all, and Climate Guardian, Deborah Hart. The evening closed with Shari Kocher’s prize winning love poem for Earth: ‘Ode to Earth‘. Let’s not leave it with this celebration of poetry. School Strike 4 Climate is holding a global strike for climate in cities around Australia and across the world on Friday 20 September 2019, and everyone is urged to stop work and join them. Details of the nearest city can be found on their website here. Come along if you can.
